Enhance Soft Skills for Construction Students Based on Labor Economics and the needs of Construction Enterprises

Abstract

Abstract — In the context of an increasingly competitive construction labor market with growing demands for high-quality human resources, soft skills have become a crucial factor determining students’ adaptability, work performance, and employment opportunities after graduation. This study adopts a labor economics perspective to analyze the gap between construction students’ soft skills and the actual requirements of construction enterprises, while also identifying the existing skill gap in the labor market.

The research data were collected through surveys of students and enterprises in the construction sector. The results indicate that skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving have a significant impact on students’ ability to meet job requirements. However, there remains a considerable gap between students’ actual competencies and employers’ expectations, particularly in practical skills.

Based on the findings, the study proposes several solutions to enhance soft skills for students, including integrating soft skills into the curriculum, promoting project-based learning, and strengthening collaboration between universities and enterprises.
